As of November 3, 2020, New Jersey voters passed legislation legalizing recreational cannabis use for those aged 21 or over, with 67% in favor. Even prior to the legalization bill, a number of municipal governments in New Jersey enacted legislation in anticipation of legalization that would ban or restrict marijuana sales and use within those municipalities, including Freehold Township, Oceanport, Cinnaminson Township, Hazlet, Middletown Township, Brick, and Toms River.
However, there is nowhere to legally buy recreational marijuana legally in New Jersey for now, and possession limits are yet to be decided (2 ounces per person seems to be the discussed limit). There is no update on whether or not medical patients or non-medical cannabis enthusiasts will be able to grow their own plants. For now, this is still illegal in New Jersey.
