Here is an overview of the medical marijuana laws in Louisiana:
2015 – Louisiana passed SB 143 in 2015, which paved the way for medical marijuana legalization in the state.
2018 – Medical marijuana is made available in dispensaries.
2021 – Non-medical (recreational) possession of 14 g (just under a half-ounce) or less of cannabis is de-facto decriminalized, with no jail time and a $100 fine. Distribution, selling and possession of large amounts still attracts penalties, and it is important to realize that cannabis possession is still technically a misdemeanor.
