Get a Doctor’s Rec & MMJ Card in Orange County, California

Orange County is one of several of California’s counties that has restricted the cannabis industry to some degree, even going as far as preventing legal dispensaries from selling “smokable” cannabis. So far, only Santa Ana in OC allows for dispensaries, cultivation and distribution, meaning that cannabis is very difficult to obtain legally in OC.

In the meantime, you can obtain a medical card and physician’s letter and, if you are so inclined, grow your own cannabis on your own property (up to 6 plants per household) quite legally. Should you often go to another county, having a medical card can save you money on sales taxes.

You can qualify for a medical card and physician’s recommendation by going to and clicking on the “Get a Rec” button, where you’ll be taken to our Medical Card page. Click on the “Get A Rec” button, and you’ll be taken to the virtual clinic. You’ll then need to create a profile by choosing a password, giving us your name & email address, taking a profile picture using your device’s camera (or uploading one of your own) and filling out a quick questionnaire.

All you need in order to speak to one of Leafwell’s physicians online and to book an appointment to qualify for a medical marijuana identification card is:

  • An internet connection.
  • A valid email address.
  • A laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet with a working camera, microphone and speakers so you can see and hear the doctor and vice-versa.
  • Photographic ID (e.g. driver’s licence, passport).
  • Proof of California residency (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, rental/mortgage agreement).
  • Ideal but not necessary: medical notes/records detailing your condition.
  • We recommend getting both a recommendation and medical marijuana identification card (MMIC) – no MMIC means no money off the sales tax portion of the total cost of any cannabinoid-based products you buy.

Some examples of qualifying conditions include Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, Crohn’s disease, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), PTSD, depression, anxiety, chronic pain and diabetes.
