Getting a MMJ Card in Kern, California

Not all parts of California have medical cannabis dispensaries and the like available to them, and Kern County is one of those parts. Cities like Bakersfield and Delano are not necessarily hugely accepting of recreational cannabis, so the best way to access cannabis in Kern is either by going to another county or by applying for a medical marijuana card. Of course, just because you’re from Kern, this doesn’t mean you can’t qualify for a physician’s recommendation & card. Thanks to telehealth, you can now book an appointment and speak to a doctor online and potentially qualify for a MMJ card with Leafwell.co.

Simply go to our Medical Card page and click on the “Get A Rec” button. You’ll be taken to a virtual clinic, where you’ll be asked to input your name and email address, and create a password. You’ll then need to take a picture (a headshot) and answer a 1-minute questionnaire that will help the doctor determine your suitability for medical cannabis.

All you need in order to speak to one of Leafwell’s physicians and to potentially qualify for a medical marijuana recommendation is the following:

  • An internet connection.
  • A valid email address.
  • A laptop, desktop, smartphone or tablet with a working camera, microphone and speakers so you can see and hear the doctor and vice-versa.
  • Photographic ID (e.g. driver’s licence, passport).
  • Proof of California residency (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, rental/mortgage agreement).
  • Ideal but not necessary: medical notes/records detailing your condition.
  • We recommend getting both a recommendation and medical marijuana identification card (MMIC) – no MMIC means no money off the sales tax portion of the total cost of any cannabinoid-based products you buy.

Those who want access to medical cannabis in Kern will likely have to go out of the county to buy it legally. Kern County currently doesn’t allow for the cultivation of medical marijuana. However, those with a valid recommendation & MMIC are able to grow up to 6 plants per household on their own property. Having a MMIC can still afford medical patients some protections in the law in many counties in California.
